GLITCH

2023

INSTALLATION, MOTION, PROJECTION

The Glitch project draws inspiration from Glitch Feminism: A Manifesto by Legacy Russell, where the concept of the “glitch” is framed as both a disruption of dominant cultural norms and a means of reimagining identity beyond fixed boundaries. Acknowledging its origins within existing systems, I translated the idea of glitch into an installation that challenges perception and positionality.

The work features a unique three-dimensional backing board, onto which shifting text and imagery are projection-mapped. Collected footage highlighting stereotypical portrayals of male and female roles is interwoven into the projections, confronting the standardized binaries of gender. Depending on where viewers stand—on the left or right side—they encounter contrasting layers of content. When positioned in the center, where these perspectives collide, they experience the “gray zone” of the glitch: a space of overlap, ambiguity, and transformation. In this way, the installation reframes glitch not as error, but as a generative space for questioning norms and rethinking identity.
